State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst Applauds Fire Safety Grants

Kankakee, IL - State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst (R-Kankakee) applauds the Illinois State Fire Marshal for awarding over $40,000 from the Small Firefighting and Ambulance Service Equipment Grant Program to fire departments in the 79th District. The recipients, Otto Fire Protection District and Reddick Community Fire Protection District, were announced today by the Illinois State Fire Marshal and the Office of the Governor.

“This grant plays a vital role to ensure our fire and ambulance services in Illinois are equipped with the necessary equipment to carry out their essential functions,” Rep. Parkhurst stated. “With requests of over $9 million from all over the state, and only $2.2 million to give, I am happy to see the Fire Marshal recognize the need in the 79th District with this very competitive grant.”

The Small Firefighting and Ambulance Service Equipment Grant, also known as the Small Equipment Grant Program, is awarded for the purchase of safety equipment, protective clothing, breathing apparatus, and other needed tools. The money for this grant comes from the Fire Prevention Fund. The grants total $2.2 million, with each recipient receiving up to $26,000. Most Illinois fire departments, fire protection districts, township fire departments, and stand-alone, nonprofit ambulance service providers were eligible to apply.
