Rep. Parkhurst Statement on School Funding Vote

Springfield, IL - On Monday, the Illinois State House of Representatives voted on the compromise evidence-based school funding bill. State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst (R-Kankakee) commented on her vote:

“The House considered and voted on the compromise school funding bill and the governor's amendatory veto of SB 1 yesterday evening. I stood firm and voted no on both of these bills and against a Chicago bailout. The compromise bill and SB 1 do not go far enough to address problems plaguing our school system. Chicago still receives an unfair advantage in their funding by including the block grant in their funding minimum and receives a Legacy Pension Credit as a ‘reward’ for skipping 11 years of pension payments. This takes away much needed funds for districts across the state and gives it to Chicago. I applaud Illinois for moving in the right direction for school funding by implementing an evidence-based model, but I could not vote for the compromise bill or the override.”
